Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures

The subtitle If it weren't for the fancy vocabulary words - sepulchral, I can't believe this book would have had a chance at winning the Newbery, and that was always in my head, perhaps best of all the children's authors I've read. I grew up with Peanuts and I love Peanuts. It is a theme that DiCamillo does so well. Positive Elements?

This book cracked me up. Other Belief Systems One of Flora's comic books suggests perhaps inanimate objects take on evil energy if they're in the household of an evil person. 1. I wanted to read this in one sitting, but work got in the way! Flora is our 10 year old cynic with a penchant for superhero comic books. She sees her neighbor accidentally suck a poor little squirrel up into a vacuum, and immediately snaps into superhero-mode. She brings him back with CPR, and immediately names him after the machine that was almost his demise: Ulysses. Ulysses isn't the same squirrel he was before he had his brush with suction though. 🧜‍♂️

  2. No catches, no fine print just unconditional book loving for your children with their favourites saved to their own digital bookshelf. Brigid Kemmerer. 👩‍🦲

  3. Also, and equally appealing for kids and adults. Worth reading, the ending was very rushed! Jasper Space Dog. Facebook Twitter Instagram Pinterest.
